I can be anything that you want me to be
A punching bag, a piece of string, oh
That reminds you not to think

She was in sleeper hold. That was all Willow Rosenberg, re-formed evil witch, could think of. Eddie Guerrero had come and interrupted the match for the Women's Championship because one slight red head had not taken to his advances.

Breaking the hold, the red head steeled her self for the punch she saw coming her way, but it was stopped.

Someone had caught it. Someone who wore a green superhero costume had just interfered in an interference meant for her.

Looking up at her almost boyfriend, Shane 'Hurricane' Helms, Willow slowly counted to ten. Watching at Shane dominated the greasy haired Guerrero, Willow could feel her anger rising. She was so sick of it! Even though she loved Shane, she couldn't stand the way he treated her! He treated her as if she was a porcelain doll.

Squealing in indignation as Shane hoisted her over his shoulder, she began pounding on back. After five minutes, which seemed like five hours, they were back stage.

A small crowd had begun to form. Sensing a lover's spat was about to begin, Lita, Jeff, and Matt began to do some crowd control.

I found the note down in your car
And it's not your fault it gets this hard
Gets this hard

"What were you thinking?" Willow cried as she struggled to get out of Shane's grasp.

"You looked like you could have used a superhero." Shane said, looking at the diva in confusion.

"I looked like I could of used a hero? Well, you know what, Shane? You're right. I could have used a hero. Hell, I wanted a hero. I wanted someone to be my hero. But I don't need this. I don't need you... gallivanting about in this costume." Willow said, her voice tinged with hysteria, but Shane could hear the hurt in it.

"Willow I was only trying to help..." Shane began, but was interrupted by Willow.

Hold your head high
Don't look down
I'm by your side
Won't back down
You wanted a hero tonight

"No. You don't get it do you?" Willow asked, bitterly. "I didn't want Hurricane Helms to come and save me, to come and be my knight in shining armor in the ring. I wanted Shane Helms. I wanted the man behind the mask to help me outside the ring. But you don't get that do you? And, I don't think I can be around you until you do. Good, good-bye Shane." Turning around, she ran out the door.

Running to her car, she fumbled with her keys. Finally inserting the tiny piece of metal into the appropriate slot, the red haired witch-cum-wrestler, got into her car and started up the ignition.

Well I'm not made of steel
I'm not made of steel
But your secrets safe with me.

Driving into the city's illustrious downtown area, she pulled over at a park near both the arena and the hotel they were staying in, she remembered Tara telling her once that she always felt at peace near nature. Hopefully it would work for her tonight, as it had in the past.

"Don't cry, don't cry." Willow repeated the mantra as she parked the car near the south end of the park. She had parked as close to the entrance as she could get.

Turning off the car, Willow pocketed her keys, locked the door, and walked out into the crisp September night. Pursing her lips, she repeated her mantra inside her head as she made her way over to the nearest tree. Sinking down in front of it, Willow curled her legs in front of her and locked her arms around her knees. Only then did the tears start to fall.

*****

Shane was in shock. Was he smothering her? Why hadn't he noticed? Was he that oblivious?

Feeling a tap of his shoulder, he saw his pretty red haired friend, Lita, holding out a pair of car keys.

"Go after her," she said. "Don't worry." Nodding back towards the Hardy's and Edge, "We'll take care of the crowd."

"Thanks." Running off, Shane tore the mask and cape off.

Making his way to the parking lot, he saw Willow's rental car exit the parking house. Cursing softly, Shane jumped into Lita's rental car and tore after her. He vaguely remembered her saying something about feeling better when she was around nature. Hoping he was right, he drove to the nearest park.

I can be anything that you want me to be
A holy cross, some sympathy, oh
That reminds you not to bleed

*****

Shane found Willow in a nearby park. She was sitting under a large Maple tree. He remembered how she always loved to go to the parks in the numerous cities that the WWE visited.

I found the note down in your car
And you climbed up here to fall apart
Fall apart

She looked so small and vulnerable with her arms around her knees, crouched against the Maple. It broke his heart to see her like that. Clearing his throat, he crouched down beside her.

*****

Willow looked to the left. Shane was there. She didn't hear him come over. Her eyes filled with tears. She knew that he had no idea what he did wrong.

"Hey," he said softly, wanting to reach out and hold her close, but restraining himself.

"Hey," she returned equally soft. She noticed he wanted to touch her, to hold her, but she made no move.

Hold your head high
Don't look down
I'm by your side
Won't back down
You wanted a hero tonight

They sat there, quietly, for many moments before Shane said, "I... for as long as I can remember, I've wanted to be a hero. I've always wanted to save the day and get the girl. I wanted to be just like the Green Lantern, Superman, and all of the other great heroes. Of course, I was just a tiny little guy. I was always picked on and someone else always had to save me..." He trailed of, trying to gauge her reaction.

Willow nodded, she understood. Taking a deep breath, she began. "When I was in high school, I was very much a geek. I was known as the person to see if you needed help and of course everyone who wanted help came to me, but no one came to be my friend. Through out most of my school years I only had two friends, Jesse and Xander." Willow smiled fondly as she thought of the two boys who meant the world to her.

Shane nodded, feeling slightly jealous at the thought of her possible being more than friends, or even just friends, with any other guy.

Well I'm not made of steel
I'm not made of steel
But your secrets safe with me

"And then she came. Her name was Buffy and she was the new girl from L.A. Everyone wanted to be her friend, especially the popular crowd. But she came to me for help and we became friends. Later I found out she was a type of hero. She had amazing powers. We went through all sorts of victories and heartaches together along with Xander and Giles, her mentor." Willow looked over at Shane.

"Wh-What happened to Jesse."

"He... died. Xander, Jesse and I were all in trouble and she came to save us. She saved Xander and me, but she couldn't save Jesse." Willow closed her eyes as the tears began to fall. "We went through everything together. She protected me; I protected her. It worked out well, until I didn't save her. She died being a hero and then I brought her back. I pulled her out of heaven because her family missed her and because the world needed its protector again." Willow looked Shane in the eyes.

No...
Your secrets safe with me

"Things weren't the same after that. They hadn't been the same for a long time and they just got worse until I became the thing she saved the world from. Do you wanna know why?"

Shane could feel his heart clench. He was a little confused, OK maybe really confused. How could Willow have brought her friend back from the dead? "Why?"

"There was this group of, well, dorks. You know the type that everyone knows, but don't acknowledge? There were three of them and they were hell-bent on beating Buffy. One of them, Warren, tried to kill her, with a gun. Something no one can fight. He missed. It hit my lover, piercing her heart. I held her as she died. I was so angry and hurt. I found Warren and killed him."

Shane was shocked. Willow had killed a man?

They knock you down
I'll pick you up...
They laugh at you
I'll shut them up

"Even if you wanted to, you couldn't turn me in. I disintegrated his body. Actually, I tore off his skin and used a lightening bolt to fry him to death. I really didn't handle Tara's, my lover's, death well. I tried to end the world, you know? I became the thing we fought so hard against. If Xander hadn't... well, let's just say you wouldn't be here right now. None of this would be here. But I coped. Giles helped me. He sent me to a Coven in England and I trained there. I still have the magick. Yes, magick. It's real. All sorts of things are real that no one ever thinks about, demons, fairytales, and vampires. It's all real. But that's beside the point. I came here because I couldn't go back. It was too hard." The tears were streaming down Willow's face now. It was all she could do to keep her voice straight.

"Oh, Willow..." That was all Shane could say. His mind was reeling. Tentatively he wrapped his arms around the crying red head. "Ssh... I'm so sorry. I had no idea you felt that way."

"Oh Shane. I’m so sorry, too. I shouldn't have flown off the handle. I'm just so sick and tired of people trying to protect me. There are only a few people in my life who have actually taken the time to care and protect me. I'm not used to that. I've always been independent. I can't help it."

"I know, its just seeing Eddie out their made my blood boil."

"I guess I can understand that, but you need to understand that I can take care of myself. Yes, I may need a hero from time to time, but when I need one, you'll know. Most of the time I just need to talk..." Looking up at Shane, Willow asked cautiously, "You-you won't tell anyone about this, will you? Because I love it here in the WWE and I really, really, really, would hate to have to kill you." Willow said with a watery smile.

"Don't worry, you're secrets safe with me." Shane whispered. He kissed the top of her head, inhaling the sweet smell of strawberries. Willow always smelled of that small sweet fruit.

But I'm not made of steel
But I'm not made of steel
But I'm not made of steel
But your secrets safe with me
Yeah
Your secrets safe with me
But yeah

"Why don't we get out of here, get some ice cream?" Shane asked with a smile.

"I'd like that, ooh, but I must look awful." She said as she brushed through her long mane.

"No you look beautiful."

"Thanks." Willow said as she blushed.

"Now how about that ice cream?"

"Yeah, lets go." Slipping her small hand into his larger one, Willow allowed herself to be led by Shane Helms and not the Hurricane.
